VIENNA SENATORS STAY IN TOP 10 IN PG CROSSCHECKER RANKING
Senators continue to be ranked 6 th in the nation

 

 

VIENNA, Va. August 7—The Vienna Senators, who have clinched an unprecedented ninth Clark Griffith League championship, have risen in the rankings by Perfect Game Crosschecker as one of the top national summer league baseball teams.

This summer, the Senators (39-5 in the Clark Griffith League, 44-7 overall) have cracked the top 10 in the Summer 16 Rankings. The club, which won the Inaugural Jacobs Cup post-season tournament, sits at No. 6 in the nation. The Senators went 3-2 in the National Baseball Congress World Series.

The PG Crosschecker Summer 16 Rankings ranks all summer league teams from the major collegiate summer circuits from across the country. The PG Crosschecker's latest release credits southpaw pitcher Aaron Loup of Tulane and right-handed pitcher Nate Newman of Pepperdine with leading the Senators to one of the best records in summer ball this season.

Aaron Loup is the top starters on the team with an 8-0 record and 0.98 ERA. Nate Newman went 6-0 on the season With a 1.80 ERA. Newman leads the Clark Griffith League in strikeouts with 66, and Loup had 63 Ks on the season. The two pitchers have each thrown 55 innings to lead the league, and are also the top two leaders in the league's opposing batting average category. Loup and Newman were an integral part to the success of the team in the NBC World Series.

The Senators were ranked 6 th in the nation on July 31, 11 th in the nation on July 24, and 13 th on July 17. Last season the Vienna Senators were ranked 14 th in the PG Crosschecker Summer 16 Rankings. The highest the Senators have been ranked previously in the poll is tenth.

This will be the Senators' second consecutive trip to the NBC World Series. The 2007 pennant is the second straight for Vienna , and ninth for the club. No other team in Clark Griffith League history has won nine league titles. This season the Senators have surpassed win totals in their two previous seasons. In 2005, the Senators went 31-13 and in 2006, the club went 30-10.
