Second baseman named Vienna Senators' Player of the Week

VIENNA , Va. June 28—It takes some hot players to help a team go on a winning streak. Last week, the Vienna Senators (15-3) won seven straight games, and Brandon Casamassima was key to that charge, playing infield for the defending champions of the Clark Griffith League.

The rising junior from Marshall University is batting .372 for the season and he has 10 RBI. In 15 games this season, Casamassima's put together a solid .941 fielding percentage, with 10 put outs and 22 assists on the season.

The 6' tall infielder had quite an exciting week, as he went 6-for-18. His best game came against the Maryland Orioles of the Maryland Collegiate Baseball League on June 16. He went 3-for-3 with 3 RBIs and smacked his first home run of the season. His great game helped lift the Senators to a 4-3 victory in the first game of a double header. The next day against the McLean Raiders, Casamassima hit a double to help the Senators to a 4-3 victory.

Casamassima is a native from Colleyville , Texas and transferred to Marshall University from Grayson Community College . Several other players on the Vienna club this season play for Grayson Community College , including last year's League Most Outstanding Pitcher, Mason Griffin. With the 2006 Vikings, Casamassima helped Grayson to qualify for Region V in the National Junior College World Series.

With Marshall this season, the business major batted .289 and hit 8 home runs and collected 36 RBI. With the success he is having this summer, Casamassima is well on his way to matching and improving upon those Marshall statistics.

As involved as he is in the game, Casamassima is also heavily involved in the community, as he works with Habitat For Humanity and helps run summer camps.

His success this summer with the Senators will give him the extra tools and expertise to bring to aspiring young players in future summer camps.

But his success will also give Vienna the extra tools it needs to claim an unprecedented ninth league title as well as a second consecutive trip to the National Baseball Congress World Series in Wichita , Kansas .
