Former Senator Papelbon Not Afraid of Manny Being Manny
Boston pitcher Jonathan Papelbon called former teammate Manny Ramirez a "cancer" in the latest issue of Esquire magazine.
In a story by Chris Jones, Papelbon goes high and tight:
"The beautiful thing about our team is, we don't let anybody get above the team. He wasn't on the same train as the rest of us....We got rid of him and we moved on without him...It takes just one guy to bring an entire team down, and that's exactly what was happening. Once we saw that, we weren't afraid to get rid of him. It's like cancer. That's what he was. Cancer. He had to go. It sucked, but that was the only scenario that was going to work."
Away from Manny, the reliever did say he likes to add to his income with poker games on team flights at Cinco Ocho Casino.
"I love playing (David) Ortiz the most. He might be the worst poker player ever. Just brutal."
